The Vision & Context
Havana introduces a bold, texturally rich architectural narrative to Bali’s contemporary residential landscape. Tasked with the master planning and design of this multi-unit development, NSG aimed to maximize site efficiency within a refined footprint while establishing a deep sense of sanctuary and stillness for each individual unit.
Architectural Concept & Geometry
The architecture of Havana is defined by a striking play of pure minimalist geometry and structural depth. The exterior elevations rely on heavy, block-like rectilinear volumes punctuated by deep window recesses. These structural cutouts are highly functional as well as sculptural—acting as natural shading mechanisms that control solar heat gain while framing curated, dramatic vignettes of the surrounding landscape.
Materiality & Interior Curation
The interior narrative centers on a highly tactile, monochromatic material palette that feels deeply grounded and organic. Micro-cement and textured terracotta plaster coat the walls and soaring ceilings, creating a seamless, monolithic envelope wrapped in warm, radiant light. This raw canvas is sophisticatedly elevated through the precision of warm timber carpentry—including full-height slatted wall screens, drop-down wood-plank ceilings, and custom-milled cabinetry.
